Journal-avatar-300x300[1]At the two-day Saraswati Writing & Yoga Workshop intensive, lead by writer/writing instructor Merridawn Duckler from Portland’s The Attic Institute and writer/yoga instructor Stephanie Renée dos Santos held on the majestic northern Oregon Coast in the city of Astoria.

Workshop Focus:  “Tapping the Muse”

Merridawn photoMerridawn Duckler  has published in Carolina Quarterly, Main Street Rag, Isotope, Green Mountains Review, Night Train, Cerise Press, Buddhist Poetry Review and others. She’s an NEA awardee in theater, with performances in Oregon, New York and California and most recently at the Last Frontier Theater Conference in Valdez, Alaska.  Her residencies and fellowships include Yaddo, Writers@Work, Centrum, SLS St. Petersburg Russia and Berta Anolic in Jerusalem.  She’s an associate editor at Narrative, member of Blackfish gallery in Portland and a Senior Fellow at the Attic Institute.

mini  Steph Professional  photoStephanie Renée dos Santos has published fiction in American Athenaeum, and has work forthcoming in Lalitamba. She writes freelance non-fiction in various venues and  eBook reviews for the Historical Novel Society.  She is a Certified Yoga Teacher in Integrative Yoga Therapy and Kum Nye- Tibetan Yoga, and practices Vinyasa-Flow Yoga as taught by Shiva Rea; and uses yoga daily to assist herself and others in creative endeavors. She teaches yoga, writes from, and lives in Garopaba, Brazil.

Description:  A workshop open to all writers and levels of yoga.  This workshop is intended to help writers access and unlock the creative flow, by allowing yoga to open, to relax, to center us for our authentic voice to burst, flow, trickle forth.

Daily Schedule

9:00-10:00 Yoga for Writers (practices specific to writer needs: opening hips, heart, and throat where creativity resides; easing tensions in neck, shoulders, and back)

10:00-10:30 Coffee/Tea break

10:30-12:30 Writing Exercises cropped Yoga at Ocean

12:30-2:30 Lunch/Free Time

2:30-3:00 Yoga Nidra (guided meditation where you begin to learn to set and fulfill  intentions for your writing)

3:00-5:00 Writing Exercises ending w/supportive interactive group reading

What you’ll need: Please bring your personal writing materials: notebook/journal/laptop and pen/pencil. Wear comfortable clothing appropriate for that day’s weather; our practices will be inside. And refrain from eating two hours prior to our meeting.

Cost: $200 includes both Saturday & Sunday

Cost Includes: All yoga instruction and materials (please feel free to bring your own mat should you like), coffee/tea break refreshments, and writing instruction.
